Giga Designs has
built the G-Celerator (single) and G-Celerator
Duo (dual) G4 Cards using the Freescale (Motorola)
7447A microprocessor. The 7447A processor has no
on-board L3 cache, but its L2 cache has been doubled
to 512KB. 7447A processors consume less power than
earlier G4 microprocessors, and they run at a lower
operating temperature. Together, these features
foster greater reliability at faster speeds.
All G-celerator G4 Cards include a built-in fan/cooling system. The strong focus
on effective cooling leads to increased performance without sacrificing reliability.
GIGA Designs delivers exceptionally well-engineered products, built in the US
and backed up by a 3 Year Manufacturer Limited Warranty and solid technical support.
Simple, easy to follow instructions make for a pain-free installation which can
typically be completed in less than ten minutes. G-celerator G4 Cards are plug
and play compatible with your original hardware, and require no drivers or software
enablers. Fully supported in OS 9.2.2 and 10.3.5 through 10.4.x.
Note: G-Celerator Cards require OS 10.3.5 or higher. It is important that you

1.
Pre-Installation Requirements:
There
are three preparatory steps required before
installing any G-celetator
Card:
a)
Verify the Apple Firmware version of your
PowerMac G4.
b) If you have not already done so, install
Mac OS X 10.3.5 (or higher).
c) Install (the provided) 7447 firmware
enabler.
a)
Apple Firmware:
The
firmware version of your PowerMac G4
is posted in Apple System Profiler.
If
it is prior to 4.2.8f1 you will
need to upgrade your firmware. To do
so:
•
Download the update from Apple - Apple
firmware update.
• Mac OS 9.1, 9.2.1, or 9.2.2 is
required to perform the update, it will
not run in OSX.
[Note:
Some Digital Audio models with a Boot
ROM version of 4.2.5f1 may not be updateable,
and you will receive a message to that
effect from within the Apple Firmware
Updater. This is a somewhat rare scenario,
if you encounter it you can proceed with
the installation of your upgrade. To repeat:
this only applies to a small number of
PowerMac G4 Digital Audio computers.
b)
Mac OS:
All
G-celerator cards require Mac
OS 10.3.5 or higher.
c)
“7447” Firmware Enabler:
Apple's
native boot ROM does not recognize
“7447A” processors without
the aid of a firmware upgrade. This
is accomplished using the firmware
flash utility included on the CD and
is bundled with each G-celerator.
You must run this firmware update
prior to installation of your new
Giga Designs CPU Card.
2.
Dual Processor Upgrade Requirements:
Installing
a dual cpu upgrade into a G4 System
which shipped from Apple with a single
processor is non-problematic. Overall
performance is incredibly enhanced
in the cpu intensive operations of
applications such as Final Cut Pro,
PhotoShop, InDesign, DVD Studio Pro,
iLife, iWork, SoundTrack Pro, etc.,
while the varied functions of OS X
are managed with far greater efficiency.
Not
all PowerMac G4 AGP models are dual
processor compatible. Your computer
must have a uni-N ASIC revision
of 7, or later installed for your
motherboard to be dual processor compatible.
To determine the revision of your
uni-7 ASIC simply click on the link
below and follow all subsequent instructions:
(a)
Giga Designs does not test, warrant,
or support third party software operations
under OS 9.
(b)
You will receive a cache error when
booting into OS 9 because this upgrade
does not have L3 cache. Normal operation
will resume after error is acknowledged.
